You’ve met someone amazing and now your life is no longer the same. Your heart beats harder when you think of him, your plans always seem to include him, and you feel miffed if he does not respond to your messages. Are you in love? It would seem that the answer is yes! But is it mutual? Here are 7 signs that he loves you back.
Love Sign 1: He becomes very tactile
The way a man touches you says a lot about his attraction to you – especially when we are talking about non-sexual touch (e.g. rubbing your shoulders, caressing your arm, stroking your hair). If you’ve noticed that, lately, your partner is being a lot more physically affectionate, then it’s a clear sign of his growing feelings. Touch alone does not signal love of course, but taken with the signs below it is certainly promising and, at the very least, a clear sign that he truly enjoys your company.
Love Sign 2: The look in his eyes says it all
How many times have you heard that the eyes are the windows to the soul? Turns out, this quote might be a cliché because it’s true – the eyes really can tell you a lot about someone’s feelings. Want a sign he loves you? Look at him while you are speaking or telling a story. If he’s distracted by his phone or can’t pull himself away from the TV or laptop, it’s not the best sign. However, if he’s looking back with a tender, sparkling look in his eyes and a slight smile on his lips, the signals point to love.
Love Sign 3: He takes your happiness into account
Has your guy ever made compromises to do something you wanted to do? If he is willing to sacrifice his poker night with friends to go to your sister’s birthday, or if he’ll happily hand you the remote (even when the rugby’s on), then this one of the definite signs he loves you! In particular, if you notice he’s asking you a lot of questions about your likes and dislikes, and then going out of his way to fulfill those likes, you’re onto a good thing. If your man combines such sweet words with thoughtful actions; if he encourages you to reach higher and doesn’t devalue you, then congratulations! This man is in love. Even better, he adores you for who you are and will not try to change you.
Love Sign 5: He is excited for you to meet his friends
If you’re in dating someone and haven’t met his family yet, it’s not necessarily a big deal. After all, everyone’s family situation is different. On the other hand, if you’ve been dating a few months and still haven’t met his friends, there might be something fishy going on. When you do meet them, his behaviour will give you key clues to his feelings: does he present you as a friend or a partner? Is he paying attention to them and you? Does he put you at ease? If he is in love, he will be proud to introduce you and will make sure you have a good time.
Love Sign 6: He responds quickly to your messages
How long does it take for your guy to respond to your messages? Are his replies long or short? Does he engage with you just because, or is he only in touch when he wants something? If he responds quickly, sends you little hellos to brighten your day, and is happy to have a whole conversation via text or messenger app, it’s a wonderful sign that he misses you – and it may even be a sign he loves you. He’s thinking about you and is taking the time to look after you, even it’s only with words.
Love Sign 7: He is happy to make plans for the future
If the man you love never plans dates more than a couple of days in advance, it can often indicate that your affection is unrequited. He may like you, sure, but if he’s hesitant to make plans because he’s waiting for a better offer, it’s unlikely that he loves you. At the other end of the scale, if he’s willing to make plans for the next few days, weeks, and even months, then, bingo. You’ve found one of the signs he loves you. You can test this by asking him to be your plus one to an upcoming wedding, or by suggesting a holiday in a few months time – if he jumps at the opportunity, chances are he’s all in.
Opening one's heart is a scary act, one that requires courage to overcome the fear of rejection. It’s important to note that this fear won’t just be something that you are experiencing – in fact, it’s likely that the man you are dating is in a very similar boat!
For that reason, even if you are dying to know more about his feelings, it’s important to let your guy go at his own pace. If you want to say ‘I love you,’ fine – but you can’t expect a genuine response if you apply pressure to say it back. A better approach is to read the signs he loves you to get a clear hint that the relationship is headed in the right direction, and wait for the unabashed delight that comes from hearing him saying ‘I love you’ in his own time.
